Conversion Method between Faux Leather and Genuine Leather:
Faux leather is typically measured in meters or yards, while genuine leather is usually measured in square feet. Due to these different units of measurement, many manufacturers who want to substitute faux leather for genuine leather may not know how to calculate the costs. Below, I’ll demonstrate the conversion process.
For faux leather, the standard width is 1.37 meters. So, in general terms, one meter of faux leather is equal to 1.37 * 1 = 1.37 square meters. Therefore, one yard of faux leather is 1.37 * 0.9144 = 1.25 square meters (since one yard is equal to 0.9144 meters).
Genuine leather is measured in square feet. 1 foot is equal to 0.3048 meters, and 1 square foot is equal to 0.3048 * 0.3048 = 0.093 square meters.
So, if you want to calculate the area and do not consider wastage:
- One meter of faux leather is equivalent to 14.7 square feet of genuine leather (1.37 / 0.093).
- One yard of faux leather is equivalent to 13.5 square feet of genuine leather (1.25 / 0.093).
For example, if a customer purchases one yard of faux leather for 100 yuan, the equivalent cost in terms of square feet of genuine leather would be 100 / 13.5 = 7.4 yuan. This way, you can compare the cost with genuine leather or other types of leather.
Keep in mind that in practice, genuine leather may have irregular shapes, and there may be a higher wastage rate during the cutting process.
